Being proactive is always the goal, but CISOs and CSOs often end up maintaining a piecemeal approach with specific technologies and tools while they put the onus on security vendors to enhance detection and prevention. A better approach is to match the flexibility and creative approaches of potential attackers and "think outside the software vendor box" when it comes to managing risk and reducing attack surface.
