In June of this year, the New York State Attorney General fined Wegmans $400,000 for allegedly exposing personal data and information of around 3 million patrons of the grocery store chain. The AG said that for more than three years, Wegman's stored information like addresses and driver’s license numbers in misconfigured cloud storage containers, which could have been an easy target for hackers.

While a $400,000 fine is like a drop in the bucket for a company of this size, we did find four lessons for businesses including rethinking your organization's approach to security and keeping the cloud simple.
